Freshers 2020: Welcome to Loughborough!

Get your Uni life off to a creative start.

We're a small team based in Martin Hall and it's our job to help you find ways to be creative outside of your studies. It might be keeping up an existing hobby or skill while you're at Uni or learning something completely new.

Our events and activities are open to any student, no matter what subject you are studying and no matter what your ability level is. From music and performing arts to creative writing and visual arts, we've got it covered! Our programme of events is open to all students and includes hands-on workshops, evening classes, music tuition, open mic performances, exhibitions and much, much more!

You can find out more further down this page or download our booklet below.

Happy Mondays

We think every week should start off creatively! Every Monday we bring you hands-on arts and crafts workshops and performances under the banner of Happy Mondays. From acoustic nights and spoken word to cookery, painting, pottery, sewing and woodwork we've got it covered. Click here to see what's coming up!

Music

If you are a music lover or a musician we have lots that you can get involved with. We host live music events such as Acoustic Night and work alongside student groups, such as the LSU Classical Society and Music Society,  to create exciting live music events for you to enjoy. If you are a musician you can apply for music tuition or an LU Arts schoarlship, and if you sign up to our free Music VIP service you will receive access to music practise rooms. As a Music VIP member you will also be kept up to date with our monthly newsletter, which includes opportunities, events and other music news from around the University.

Visual Arts

Did you know we have our own gallery space on campus? Every year we put on free exhibitions to showcase the work of our students, the research going on at the University or the end result of an artist residency. The gallery is located in Martin Hall with direct access off Shirley Pearce Square. Exhibitions are usually open at lunchtimes and are listed on the 'What's on' page of our website.

You can also follow our sculpture trail or get involved in our Handicrafts artist residency, creating new work for the University’s art collection. For contemporary art enthusiasts there’s Radar, bringing artists to campus to create new work in response to research taking place at Loughborough. Find out more: lboro.ac.uk/radar

Scholarships

Our arts and music scholarships are open to any student who will be studying @lborouni this year. Are you a talented musician, writer/poet, performer or artist? You could win a £200 cash prize and a year of free tuition or mentoring.

Societies

Join a student society and carry on your hobbies at university or discover a new one, with over 25 arts-related societies at the union.

Crafternoons

Spend your afternoons taking a break from your studies, unwinding and being creative with our crafternoon sessions – free online arts workshops, run by students.
