Brand Marketing Manager: Moonpig
Bex graduated in 2015 with a BSc in Retailing, Marketing and Management. She now works at card retailer, Moonpig, where she has managed multi-million pound TV campaigns and enjoys the varied nature of her role.
I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to study, but knew I liked Business and was interested in studying that as my degree.
I also knew it would be broad enough to allow me to specialise when I chose to and the compulsory Placement year was also a big draw.
I had the best time at Loughborough, it was such a great few years. The course itself, especially in final year, gave me relevant understanding of marketing and retail, which, when applied to the experience I gained on my placement year, was a good foundation to start my career.
Would there be one piece of advice that you would give to current or prospective students looking to study the same course that you did?
Make the most of the placement year and use it as a foundation to build your career - it will add relevance and meaning to your studies and makes for a strong CV for grad jobs!
Did you take part in any extra-curricular activities during your studies? If so, how did this impact upon your Loughborough experience?
I played some sport and got involved with the Volunteer Academy at Loughborough Sport too - the people I met and having more things to do definitely positively impacted my Loughborough experience!
I also really enjoyed being part of Royce Hall for two years and getting involved in social and hall events.
Following graduation, I took a Graduate role at Warburtons, where I was a Marketing/Commercial Graduate. After a year on the scheme I got a permanent role as a Brand Manager, which I did for about 18 months.
Due to relocating back to Leeds, I then left Warburtons and took a role at Calbee as a Brand Manager, which gave me further experience, but culturally it didn’t fit and I decided on a move to London to work at Moonpig.
Once I decided I wanted to move to London, I looked for large consumer brands with relevant vacancies and applied and then got the Moonpig job!
It appealed because it’s a huge brand and a new sector for me, being e-commerce. It also has a great culture, as part of the Photobox group and I am enjoying the challenge so far!
I enjoy how varied it is and also how challenging it is, there’s new projects every day.
Also, the nature of e-commerce is that you can make an impact really quickly, which isn’t something I’ve been used to buy I’m enjoying being able to make quick decisions and see results.
I plan to stay at Moonpig and look to build my career here, it’s stretching me and I’m learning a lot.
Longer term I’d look to progress within marketing, whilst keeping my experience broad for now, but at some point I would plan to specialise in order to be able to continue to progress.
Planning and running large campaigns for Warburtons and Arla, where we did multi-million pound TV campaigns and we could see the impact and buzz on social media.
