Professor and Chair: Mass Communication department, Rochester University
Carol completed her doctorate in Social Sciences (media) in 2016 and is now Professor and Chair of the Mass Communications department at Rochester University. Here Carol discusses her journey following her time in Loughborough.
My parents moved from the USA to the UK when I was 16 years old, I value my British education up to and including my MA degree. Although I moved back to the USA when I was 31 years old, it was only natural to look for a PhD program back in the UK. When Professor David Buckingham, my PhD supervisor, moved from University of London Institute of Education, to Loughborough Univeristy, I transferred because I was already writing my thesis.
I was a distance learning international student. I spent two summers on campus and enjoyed the library very much.
I have taught in higher education for more than 25 years and I am now a tenured professor and department chair. My proudest moment was earning my PhD.
I have progressed as far as I can in my career without changing institutions. I look forward to continuing program assesment to make sure we offer mass communication courses, relevent to the 21st century industry needs and to adapt classroom pedagogy to facilitate students to be more responsible for their learning. I love teaching ethics, video storytelling, media writing and engaging students.
Rochester University is, a private faith-based liberal arts American univeristy, that was established in 1959 in the north metro-Detroit area of Michigan, USA.
