Adam graduated with a degree in Business Economics and Finance in 2016 before embarking on a career with Jet2, where he currently works as a Senior Customer Analyst.
The two main factors which attracted me to Loughborough were the campus and the good reputation of the University.
I mainly studied this course due to the career prospects. Originally, I wanted to study business, but felt that the above course would set me apart a bit more initially when applying for future roles.
I found the course very challenging at times, but coming out of it with first class honours has helped me in my career by making me more resilient to hard challenges, actively seeking them out now in my career.
Would there be one piece of advice that you would give to current or prospective students looking to study the same course that you did?
If you’re finding it tough, stick with it. And use the facilities that are available to you (tutors and lecturers, the maths centre, library etc.).
Did you take part in any extra-curricular activities during your studies? If so, how did this impact upon your Loughborough experience?
I was on the hall committee in second year (as the Rag rep) and took part in a few IMS sporting events. Being on the hall committee was challenging at times to fit around my normal studies, but was very rewarding in terms of meeting new people and the experiences. I also loved being seen almost as a mentor to the new students.
My sandwich course degree allowed me to do a year of professional placement at 3M Healthcare as a CRM Analyst, which ultimately set me down the career path of data analytics.
Then, around March/April time in my final year I was offered the Graduate Marketing Analyst role at Jet2 which I started in September that year. It was a year-long placement with 6 months in a web analytics role and then 6 months in a database marketing role. After the year I made the decision to become a full-time employee in the database marketing team, and then 18 months later the ‘Customer Data’ was created as a sub-team and I was promoted to Senior Customer Analyst.
As a Senior Customer Analyst at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, it is my role to analyse, interrogate and manipulate large datasets in order to provide actionable, intelligent insights to the marketing team and wider business to aid in making better informed sales and marketing decisions.
Through customer profiling, demographic and geo-demographic analysis, campaign performance analysis and product insight analysis I provide various teams with knowledge and recommendations to increase their capability to sell the right product to the right people.
I love the problem-solving nature of it. I enjoy taking on large projects from scratch as well as working on different things with different people.
A good, well-paid career hopefully! I want to become even more of an expert in my area and develop new skills by potentially looking into data science more, progressing my career in the process.
On a more personal note I would like to see more of the world and potentially take some time off to travel.
