The first of the family to attend the University was Nihal Jinasena who graduated in 1962 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Nihal also received an Honorary degree in 2000.
Two of Nihal's siblings also studied at Loughborough. Rohan Jinasena studied Production and Engineering Management, graduating in 1966, and Tissa Jinasena graduated in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Engineering Management.
The next generation of the family who attended Loughborough were cousins Lalin and Roshni Jinasena. Alumna Roshni studied Management Sciences, graduating in 1993. Alumnus Lalin studied an undergraduate degree in Design and Manufacturing following by a master's in Management, he graduated in 2000 and 2001.
Roshni's stepdaughter Shenaya Fernando is currently studying Psychology at Loughborough.
The Jinasena family are from Sri Lanka and own several businesses which make up the Jinasena Group, a leading industrial and trading conglomerate.
