Emily hops into children’s storytelling with new book

Emily Ann Davison (BSc Psychology 2003 and MSc Finance and Management 2004) is set to release her debut children’s book ‘Every Bunny is a Yoga Bunny’ in March.

With beautiful illustrations by award-winning Deborah Allwright, the book will be published by Nosy Crow in collaboration with The National Trust.

The story is about a young bunny called Yo-Yo, who is a fidgety, bouncy bunny. Even Grandpa’s yoga class doesn’t stop her wiggling and giggling. Yo-Yo later finds herself lost and all alone in a shadowy forest. She feels panicky, but perhaps Grandpa’s yoga will be able to help her after all!

There are simple step-by-step instructions at the end of the book so children can stretch, feel calm and be a yoga bunny too.

We spoke to Emily about what influenced her to write the book and become a children’s author.

Emily said:

I’ve worked with a lot of wriggly young children, so knew there was a place for a book to help wriggly children feel calm. When I started writing the story, we had been trying different relaxation techniques with my young daughter to help her fall asleep at bedtime. One thing that really helped was yoga!

I studied Psychology as my undergraduate degree and found the modules about child development fascinating. I did a little sidestep and completed a Master’s degree in Finance and Management, which led me to the realisation that working with children was where my heart was.

I later trained as an Early Years teacher and it was here where I discovered my enthusiasm for children’s books, in particular picture books. I worked with children for many years, and it was so rewarding to share my love of children’s books with them. One day, a picture book idea popped into my head, and this set me on the path I am now on.

Every Bunny is a Yoga Bunny is set to be released on 3 March 2022.
