Second Emmy Award win for RuPaul’s Drag Race Director Nick

Alumnus Nick Murray has gone on to win second Emmy Award for his work on hit TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race. 

At the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on 19 September, Nick took home the award for Outstanding Directing for A Reality Program for the RuPaul’s Drag Race episode Gettin’ Lucky, which saw contestants write, record, and perform for RuPaul’s new song Lucky in season 13 of the show.  

The alumnus had previously been nominated for the same award in 2019 and 2020, after winning his first Emmy Award in 2018 for the episode 10s Across The Board in season ten 

On the night of the Emmy Awards, the popular show won six awards including Outstanding Competition ProgramOutstanding Unstructured Reality Program, and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program. The latter of these saw host RuPaul achieving the Most Emmy Wins by a person of colour. This saw the cumulative total of awards for the show reach 24. 

VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, which looks to find America’s Next Drag Superstarhas gone on to achieve international acclaim. There are now several international versions including BBC Three’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. 

Nick, who graduated in 1991 with an MSc in Information Technology, has directed the VH1 show for eleven years, after he joined in its third season.
