Virtual panel events support student career aspirations
This week five alumni shared their experiences and expertise with students as part of the University’s annual Careers Fair.
Moved online, the Careers Fair took place between 19-23 October and included a range of panel events covering a variety of sectors.
Beginning the week, alumna Mandy Minichiello, Head of Marketing - Showroom at Wickes, took part in the Careers in Marketing and PR session. Mandy talked about creative CVs, researching the company you are applying to, and encouraged curiosity.
Two alumni shared their experiences in the public sector on Tuesday for the Careers in Charity and Public Sector panel. Alumnus Narinder Singh Pooni, Senior Parliamentary Researcher, and Kim Wright, Chief Executive of Lewisham Borough Council, discussed roles within politics and local government, respectively. Students were interested in hearing about getting into these sectors and heard top tips on networking.
Joining a popular Careers in Engineering session, alumnus Guy Reid, Production Manager at Nissan Motor Corporation, shared experiences as an Automotive Engineering graduate, and progressing his career in the sector.
Finally, alumnus Chris Lucas joined the Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals session on Thursday, giving interesting insights into work around vaccinations. Chris is the COO of Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre UK (VMIC) and discussed the growth of the organisation, training opportunities available and the scale of vaccine production.
The alumni were joined by representatives from a huge range of other organisations who work with the University’s Careers Network. Notable organisations included Amazon, Rolls Royce, and PepsiCo.
Thank you to our alumni for giving their time.
