ExpHand Prosthetics reach finals of Santander competition

Alumna Kate Walker, Founder of ExpHand Prosthetics, is a finalist in the Santander Emerging Entrepreneurs Competition.

Kate pitched in the semi-finals of the competition on 22 September, and the finals will take place online on 29 September.

Kate designs prosthetics that grow as the individual grows, inspired by her friend’s daughter who was born without a left arm from the elbow. The MEng Product Design (2019) alumna uses 3D printing to create the prosthetics and has plans for a range of colours, at a cost of just £50 per unit. She has already won multiple university, regional and national business awards for her work. She is a member of the Studio, the University’s graduate start-up programme based in LU Inc., the Incubator on LUSEP.

Pitching against seven other finalists, Kate will share her product and business model with judges including Theo Paphitis, Prue Leith and Nathan Bostock.
