Alumnus supporting the vulnerable in Mauritius during the coronavirus pandemic
Alumnus Bala Sawmynaden is part of The Rotary Club of Flacq, a district on the island of Mauritius. The Rotary Club carry out community projects and aim to make Mauritius a better place to live.
Due to the pandemic, the island has been in lockdown. This has left many people without work and therefore unable to afford food. Bala and The Rotary Club have stepped in to support those in need by putting together and delivering basic food parcels.
The Rotary Club initially funded the project, but now people in the local community have also started to make donations. During the first week of the project around 115 families benefited from receiving a food parcel.
Bala graduated with a degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management in 2016.
