Alumnus launches YouTube channel to inspire professionals

Alex Lees, Founder of Tale Production, has recently launched “Tale Talks”, a video series of Q&As with business professionals, entrepreneurs and athletes from across the Midlands to inspire peers during lockdown.

The alumnus, who graduated in 2015 with a degree in Product Design Engineering, noticed a gap in experience and best-practice sharing during the pandemic, and working with Jennie Holland PR, decided to address it.

New videos are uploaded regularly, and Alex has been interviewing fellow Loughborough graduates as part of the series.

Alumnus Ross Kemp (Industrial Design and Technology 2011), Founder of Asap Water Crafts, discusses his approach to launching a business and crowdfunding. Ross’ latest funding round fell flat during the pandemic, and forecasts for the business have had to be altered. However, he has since overfunded.

Fellow Loughborough graduate Simon Lyons (Product Design Engineering 2013), Founder of Version 22, has also contributed to the series of Tale Talks. He discusses adapting his business – and crowdfunding round – during the pandemic and the impact that this has had on the business so far.

Two more Tale Talks with alumni are planned. In the coming weeks, Alex will chat with Steve Sowerby (Master of Business Admin 1990), Founder of XPotential, and Amy Allcock (Applied Sports Science 2015), athlete and Business Development Manager.

Alex says:

“I wanted to launch Tale Talks as there are so many great stories out there in the Midlands, yet it's difficult for people to talk about them currently and some may be worried to share positive experiences during what is a very difficult time for many. However, Jennie and I felt that the more positivity and success we put out into the business sphere, the better morale and collective insight will be.

“In addition, there are a lot of individuals pivoting and altering the way they are operating and some of that shared knowledge will hopefully inspire others and provide confidence to do the same. I'm hoping that these videos can bring everyone together, in a time where digital is the only form of communication.”

Tale Talks will be open for business owners, entrepreneurs, athletes and more to share their stories. Find out more and watch the talks on YouTube.
