Alumni congratulate the Class of 2020 in special online show

Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 are postponed until April 2021 – but that did not stop the Loughborough family coming together to celebrate.

On Wednesday 29 July alumnus Mike Wedderburn, a Sky Sports News presenter, hosted Loughborough’s first-ever online show, with his special guest Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Allison.

Mike presented the show from the West Park Teaching Hub on the Loughborough University campus, set up in TV studio style, ready to welcome special guests and hear from others via video.

The show consisted of a range of segments, put together to celebrate with Loughborough’s Class of 2020 during these unique times.

Alumni Emma Hatton, David Moorcroft OBE, Paula Radcliffe MBE, Philip Serrell, Katie Shanahan and Bob Wilson OBE shared messages of congratulations and top tips for heading into the working world.

The Class of 2020 were invited to share their celebrations, wearing makeshift gowns, having celebratory drinks and more. They also had the chance to enter a baking competition, judged by alumnus Dr Rahul Mandal, winner of The Great British Bake Off 2018.

The show concluded with an appearance from alumnus and Loughborough University Chancellor, Lord Sebastian Coe KBE, who joined a video call with Mike and Professor Allison.

Thank you to our alumni for volunteering their time and sharing advice. We warmly welcome the Class of 2020 to the Alumni Association.
