Alumna shares volunteering experience in Kenya

Coral Reeves recently spent three months in Kenya with charity Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). The Government-endorsed scheme provides volunteer placements to 18-25 year olds as part of the International Citizen Service programme.

VSO aim to make volunteering more immersive, with volunteers living amongst the community in host-homes. The scheme also aims to bring volunteers from different countries together.

The alumna volunteered in a school for students with disabilities, she said:

“Through the work of St Patrick’s school and the volunteers there, people living with disabilities not only grew in confidence, but learnt life changing skills they otherwise wouldn’t have gained.”

Coral also raised £850 for VSO, which will ensure that communities in developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of volunteers.

Through the programme, you can volunteer in several countries, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Uganda.

Coral graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Mathematics Education in 2018.
