Nira contributes to Inspirational Black Leaders panel
Alumnus Dr Nira Chamberlain was on a panel of black leaders on Thursday 24 October - an event organised as part of the University’s Black History Month calendar.
The alumnus has worked within defence, aerospace, retail and energy sectors, developing mathematical models to solve complex real-world problems.
Nira has two mathematical doctorates, and in 2019, he was named in the Top 100 most influential black people in Britain as part of the 2019 Black Powerlist.
Dr Chamberlain joined panellists from the University and from companies such as EY. He brought a wide range of experiences and ideas to the panel, sharing insight into his career in mathematics.
He also discussed the recognition he has received for his work, included his listing by the Science Council as “one of the UK’s Top 100 Scientists”.
In 2015, he joined the elite list of distinguished mathematicians who featured in the biographical reference book the UK’s Who’s Who. In addition, from 2020 Nira will be the President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Application (IMA).
Thank you to Nira for volunteering his time.
