Award-winning Alex set to raise over £1 million
Award-winning alumnus Alex Nash is set to get 2019 off to a flying start having secured almost £1 million in investment for his company, Alcuris.
Alex founded the company in the final year of his Product Design Engineering course, from which he graduated in 2016. Investors include PureGym founder Peter Roberts and founders of fintech success, HD Decisions, with the total investment to become six-figure sum soon, with the launch of their 3rd funding round.
Alcuris was launched at Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP) and now employs ten software engineers, including several fellow alumni. Its management board includes the former global CEO of telecare company, Tunstall.
The company’s first product range, memo, ensures independence for the vulnerable, reassurance for their families and insight to health and care providers. The system, which works with third-party smart devices in the home including Amazon Alexa and Google Home Hub, has started trials with two major local authorities in the UK.
In November, Alex won two NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards for his work, which was inspired by his grandfather’s own battle with dementia. Alcuris has had its potential recognised through the BMW iTech and Santander Universities Entrepreneurship awards, and Loughborough Enterprise Network Start-Up Fund, which awards students and recent graduates up to £5,000 to progress new businesses.
Alcuris is also engaged in the Dementia House, a £300,000 interdisciplinary collaboration between the University and BRE (Building Research Establishment) to help educate builders, carers and relatives on how to better support those living with dementia.
The flagship facility on BRE’s Watford Innovation Park provides the clinical setting for Alcuris to test the memo platform and improve its ability to detect changes in behaviours which can indicate the presence of health conditions.
Congratulations to Alex and all at Alcuris on their success.
