Alumnus shares graphic design story with school students
On 14 June, alumnus Nish Wickramasinghe visited Loughborough to share an insight into a career in graphic design with sixth form students.
The Inspiring Minds: Art & Design event gave the Year 12 delegates the chance to experience studying their subject area of choice and to meet with staff and students at Loughborough. They also had the opportunity to hear from Nish, a graphic designer with his own agency.
Sharing his story, Nish encouraged the students to stand out from the crowd and “be honestly different”. The alumnus, who graduated in 1991 with a degree in Graphic Design, stressed the importance of having creative work critiqued and to amend it.
Nish is still friends with many of the people who he studied with at Loughborough. Discussing this with the students, he told them how important it is to have fun and enjoy yourself at university – “if you’re having a good time, you’ll do good work”.
He also shared examples of briefs given to his company, Curious Agency, and their visual responses to the problems presented to them.
Thank you to Nish for volunteering his time and expertise.
