Alumni support recent graduates at mentoring and networking event
On 6 June 2019, eight alumni visited the Loughborough University London campus to meet with 20 recent graduates to offer support, advice and to conduct speed-interviews.
The event, organised by the Careers Network and Alumni Engagement teams, aimed to work with alumni from industry to provide real-life interview experiences to 2018 graduates.
Four alumni opened the event with a panel discussion, chaired by alumna Margaret Eyres, Director of Export and Agency Finance at Commerzbank AG.
Alumni John Harrison, Managing Partner at BBH London; Alan Palmer, Vice President R&D, Unilever, and Sumeet Vermani, Global Marketing Director - Digital Marketing, WorldPay, all took part in the panel, providing their top tips on making successful applications.
The panel conversations urged graduates to “consider and channel your passion”, “know about the company and why you want to work for them specifically” and “align your application to the values of the organisation”.
Graduates from our 2018 cohort had the opportunity to ask further questions before moving onto the speed-interviewing session, where they took part in short interviews with several alumni. They had the chance to answer questions and to receive instant feedback from the interviewers.
Conducting interviews alongside the four panellists were alumni Chris Barrass, Head of Propositions & Solution Delivery at Visa; Paul Garside, Risk Director at Barclaycard Payment Solutions; Martin Gossling, CEO of 270 Vision and Helen Rothwell, Head of Channel Engagement at Barclays.
Attendees enjoyed the chance to practice interviews and meet with fellow alumni from a range of industries.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the event.
