Alumni inspire young sporting minds on campus
On 16 January, three alumni visited Loughborough to share an insight into sport careers with sixth form students.
The Inspiring Minds Sport event gave the Year 12 delegates the chance to experience studying their subject area of choice and to meet with staff and students at Loughborough. For the first time, they also had the opportunity to hear from three alumni working in sport and wellbeing.
Jamie Hooper, Khalil Rener and Amber Wildgust each spoke about their time at Loughborough as a student, and then gave an insight into their career to date.
Jamie graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2012. His extra-curricular interests enabled him to build a career in sport. Now the Senior Equality & Diversity Manager for Sport England, he began his sporting journey through coaching and umpiring hockey.
Sport and Exercise Science alumna, Amber, is the General Manager at Aston Villa Ladies Football Club. She graduated in 2014 and has since been developing a career in football.
Khalil, who graduated with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science in 2015 and an MSc in Sport Management in 2016, has recently set up his own company, Rener Wellbeing. He was inspired to set up his own business thanks to his studies at Loughborough and was happy to share his experiences at the event:
"I really enjoyed coming back to Loughborough and being involved with the Inspiring Minds event! I went to a similar day when I was looking at which university I wanted to study Sports Science at and it made my choice very easy. It was also great to be alongside Amber and Jamie on the panel."
