Alumni football team aims to achieve title success
A London-based football team founded by alumni of both Loughborough and the University of Nottingham are preparing for the final few games of the season as they hope to win the league.
Nottsborough FC was co-founded by John Litster, who graduated in 1986 with a BA in Business Administration, and University of Nottingham graduate, Jonty Hill.
Having graduated, the pair met in London’s Covent Garden, forming Nottsborough FC in 1989 in an effort to recreate University-style football and a University club feel at a semi-pro standard.
The club’s first team currently sits third in the Southern Amateur League Senior Division 1, six points off the top with four games remaining. It welcomes players of all standards and also has a Reserves, Third and Fourth team, all of which compete in the Intermediate and Junior divisions of the same league, as well as a Veterans side.
The side has featured several Loughborough graduates since its inception, including some who have represented the University. It currently includes Loughborough alumni Ben Lancaster (International Business 2016), James Taylor (Sport and Exercise Science 2008), Tom Woolston (European Studies 2009), Dom Matcham (International Business 2016) and Josh Sorenti (Sociology 2013).
The unique footballing style of the club has reaped rewards, with Nottsborough having made four Amateur Football Association (AFA) Cup Final Appearances. Seven players have also made the AFA Representative team over the past few years.
In 2008, six Nottsborough players travelled to Italy to represent England in an amateur tournament, the team going unbeaten against semi-pro opposition.
Playing their home matches at Kingston University in south-west London, the club prides itself on offering University-style football at a competitive amateur standard. Graduates from several Universities have joined them since their creation, with the club always on the lookout for new players.
We wish Nottsborough FC the best of luck for the rest of the season. Any alumni who are interested in joining the team can contact James Taylor.
