Alumna becomes World Indoor Masters Champion
Claire Spurway has become the 60m sprint World Indoor Athletics Masters Champion following the competition in Touran, Poland.
The alumna, who graduated from Loughborough in 2000 with a degree in PE and Sports Science, travelled to Poland with a hamstring injury she sustained two weeks before the race in March this year.
“It was an amazing experience to become a World Champion, I’m very grateful and know it is to be used to help others”
The alumna has always been a keen athlete and represented Loughborough Students’ Athletics Club frequently during her time at the university. Claire also competed at the Loughborough International Athletics, setting her personal best for the 60m race in 2005.
Claire says her reason for competing is to help inspire children to be active. She visits schools delivering assemblies and PE lessons, and has also created Five Star Athletics UK – an athletics programme for individuals, groups and schools. She also has a Personal Training company based in London.
The alumna has said that her next goals include competing in the European Masters Indoor Championships in Portugal next March, and the World Masters Outdoor Championships in Canada next August.
Congratulations to Claire on her achievements.
