Loughborough University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison, held his fourth Annual Reception on Thursday 17 May 2018.
Hosted at Tower Bridge, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed over 100 alumni, staff, students and friends to the iconic location at the heart of London.
The event began with an informal reception where guests were able to enjoy drinks and canapés, whilst taking in stunning views of the Thames.
In his speeches, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the recent successes of the University and outlined plans for the future, particularly in respect of enterprise activities. Sir Peter Bonfield, Chair of University Council also gave a speech and reminisced his own Loughborough University days, to the delights of guests.
Along the theme of enterprise, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise, Professor Tracy Bhamra, also gave an update on the enterprising activities available at Loughborough. There was a particular focus on the brand new start-up fund, providing the opportunity for students and recent graduates to apply for funding of up to £5000.
Guests were able to meet some of the University’s rising student and graduate entrepreneurs as they showcased their businesses and products. They also had the chance to walk across the glass floor and to see the bridge lift beneath their feet.
