Graduate start-up selected for international accelerator programme
Product Design and Technology alumnus, Matt Pritchard, has seen his start-up company, Waffle, chosen for the METRO Accelerator for Hospitality programme, powered by Techstars.
The start-ups were handpicked by a jury of 20 members including investors, METRO executives and other partners.
Food retailer METRO operates across 35 countries worldwide and their accelerator prepares businesses for further growth through mentoring and financial investment worth around £107,000.
One of just 10 selected to take part in the three-month acclaimed development programme, Waffle is run by Matt alongside current Computer Science student, James Powell-Tuck and Julian Bourne, a friend from the University of Sussex.
Waffle is an online chatbot which works on Facebook Messenger. It aims to fill restaurants during quiet hours by offering users limited use and limited time deals, whilst simultaneously adapting to the user’s taste preferences.
Waffle has seen success at home and abroad this year, having won the Pitch@Palace People’s Choice Award in April. The company also aims to help fight homelessness. Every offer used results in a donation towards a meal for someone in need.
The trio will head to Berlin for the accelerator programme, which focuses on business development, product testing and coaching for investor relations.
They will take part in a final pitch to 500 potential investors and restaurant owners in Berlin in February 2019 alongside other businesses from eight countries worldwide including Germany, India and South Korea. Waffle has also been awarded start-up funding from Loughborough Enterprise Network.
Congratulations to Waffle their achievement.
