Engineering alumnus gifted with prestigious award

Alumnus, Chetan Kotur, has been honoured with the title of RAEng Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year for 2018.

This prestigious award recognises the most talented and successful engineers who have demonstrated excellence in the early stages of their career.

Chetan discovered his passion for designing cars at a young age and pursued this vocational interest at University. His ability to apply himself academically resulted in achieving a first class M.Eng degree in Automotive Engineering from Loughborough University.

The young engineer progressed quickly through the Volvo Cars Global Graduate Programme and was identified as a future leader in the automotive industry. Chetan is now the CEO’s Assistant at Polestar; a Volvo start-up electric car company that he co-launched in 2017 in Shanghai.

The award-winning graduate is an advocate for STEM and promotes activities in the North East to inspire the next generation of engineers. Chetan founded the “Future Engineers Scheme” at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College which has benefitted over 200 students since its launch in 2013.

He was also awarded an Engineering Leadership Advanced Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering, allowing him to travel the world developing leadership skills.

To add to his impressive collection of accolades, Chetan is mentor to a young boy he met in Rio de Janeiro and supports his dream of becoming a car designer.
