Alumnus teams up with female sports writers in new initiative
Seth Burkett has joined up with a sports publishing company hoping to promote women in football writing and publishing.
He has partnered with Floodlit Dreams, an independent publisher of sports literature founded by Ian Ridley (right). The publisher has itself partnered with Women in Football’s #WhatIf campaign.
The partnership is inviting submissions from female football writers, with the winner seeing their book published as part of efforts to address the under-representation of female sports writers.
Women in Football is an international professional network who support and champion the role and growth of women in the sport. The group includes journalists, lawyers and FIFA officials, with its #WhatIf campaign encouraging people to contribute ideas as to how to improve football for women and girls.
Seth, who graduated with a BA in English and Sports Science in 2013 and MA in English in 2014, had his fourth book published in August. He has previously played professional football in Brazil, which has inspired his writing.
Speaking about the partnership, Seth said:
“I'm really excited to work with Women in Football and see submissions from fresh female football writers.
“Ian Ridley took a chance on me with my debut book and I'd love to repay the favour.”
