Alumnus shortlisted for British Council Alumni Award in Mauritius
Loughborough University alumnus, Dr Mahendra Gooroochurn, has been shortlisted for a highly sought-after British Council Alumni Award in Mauritius.
The awards celebrate the exceptional achievements of alumni who have studied in the UK in the last 15 years and highlight the impact and value of a UK education. This year, there were over 1700 applications made from alumni in 123 countries.
Loughborough University is delighted to see alumnus, Dr Mahendra Gooroochurn, shortlisted for a British Council Alumni Award. Mahendra is shortlisted for the Professional Achievement Award, which recognises alumni whose work has created change in their chosen profession.
Upon his return to Mauritius from the UK, Mahendra returned to Prodesign where he worked prior to studying for a PhD. He became the Head of Sustainability and Research Manager for the building services engineering consultancy.
Mahendra’s role at Prodesign was to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment. To achieve this, he worked to set up an energy audit management scheme for Mauritius. He worked closely with other professionals in his field and has worked on the LEED certification of building projects.
After three years at Prodesign, Mahendra left the company and now works as a lecturer at the University of Mauritius in the Mechanical and Production Engineering Department. He is working on a range of energy efficiency and sustainability research projects.
Alongside his professional work, Mahendra had also shared his knowledge and skills by delivering a range of workshops and presentations to schools on the subject of sustainability in everyday living.
Dr Mahendra Gooroochurn graduated with a PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Loughborough University in 2010.
The awards will take place in a range of destinations worldwide over the next year.
