Alumnus picks up national award for shipbuilding leadership
Michael Rusbridge recently picked up a national award from the Association of Project Managers for his leadership of a recent shipbuilding project.
The 2013 Mechanical Engineering graduate was presented with the Young Project Professional of the Year Award following his work with Pendennis Shipyard.
The award focused specifically on Michael’s role as Project Manager for the building of Vijonara, a 128-foot custom built sailing yacht which took two years to complete.
He accepted the award in London earlier this month, following an essay and presentation on his management of the Vijonara project and the challenges he had to overcome.
Despite having been involved in a series of ship builds prior to the Vijonara, Michael credited his time at Loughborough for playing a part in his recent success:
“Loughborough gave me a lot of the skills I have today, especially with regards to project management as many of the modules I did incorporated elements of this.
“I also did a year in industry which was organised through Loughborough which I put a lot of my success down to.”
Founded in 1988, Pendennis is a builder of custom yachts based in Falmouth, including the world’s largest sailing catamaran.
Congratulations to Michael on his achievement.
