Alumnus crowdfunds to bring invention to market
Alumnus Ross Weir has turned to crowdfunding to help produce his new invention, the Oid.
Made of stainless steel, the Oid is a combination of art and engineering, which aims to add a dash of creativity to desks around the country. The design also aims to aid stress-relief and concentration.
The product is in two parts joined together by magnets. The pieces can change shape and be used as a handy yet soothing object to have on your desk. The Oid is designed by Weir&Wolf, a company founded by Ross and his wife Emma.
Produced using a precision investment casting process, the product is made using the same foundry and materials as Bentley’s famous ‘Flying B’.
Ross graduated in 2003 with a BSc in Sports Technology. Weir&Wolf’s Kickstarter campaign is aiming to raise £5,000, with the view to design and produce more versions of the Oid. You can find out more online.
