Alumni share insight into what it takes to become a Red Arrows pilot
Jon Bond and Simon Taylor visited campus on Friday 2 November to give a guest lecture as part of the Careers Network Personal Best series.
The alumni are current and former pilots in the Red Arrows display team, and gave an exciting and valuable insight into their career journeys for students from a range of disciplines.
Launching the “Personal Best – My Story” series, the pair discussed their careers in the armed forces with a particular focus on the Red Arrows. They linked their experiences to traits such as being a good team player and being able to network. Students had the chance to ask questions and to meet with the alumni at the end of the session.
Jon has recently moved from Red 2 to Red 7 in preparation for the next season. He will be part of the synchro pair, performing exciting manoeuvres during air displays. Simon recently left the synchro pair, where he was Red 6, and will be moving into commercial flying.
Jon graduated from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering with a BSc in Air Transport Management in 2005 and completed an MSc in Transport Policy and Business Management in 2006. Simon graduated from the Loughborough Design School in 2002 with a BSC in Ergonomics.
Thank you to Jon and Simon for volunteering their time to inspire students.
