Alumnae play key role as England make it to World T20 final

Five alumnae were part of the England Women’s cricket team which finished as runners-up in the first Women’s World Twenty20 competition.

Tammy Beaumont (Chemistry and Sports Science, 2012), Lauren Winfield (Sports Science, 2014), Anya Shrubsole (Psychology, 2015), Natalie Sciver (Sport and Exercise Science, 2015) and Amy Jones (Applied Sports Science, 2015) all featured in the final against Australia.

Fellow alumnae Linsey Smith (Sports Coaching, 2017) and Natasha Farrant (Sports Science with Management, 2018), current students Kirstie Gordon and Sophia Dunkley and Loughborough Lightning player Jenny Gunn also participated in the tournament in the West Indies.

The seven alumnae formed half of the England team, in their attempt to become double world champions.

England had previously overcome South Africa, India and Bangladesh in the tournament, with Anya Shrubsole taking a hattrick in the latter.

Congratulations to the England team on their achievement.
