Alumnae named as Wisden Cricketers of the Year
Two alumnae have made history after being named among Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year, following their unforgettable win at the 2017 World Cup.
Anya Shrubsole MBE (Psychology, 2015) and Nat Sciver (Sport and Exercise Science, 2015) were named on the list, alongside their England captain Heather Knight, making them the third, fourth and fifth women to ever receive the prestigious award.
The accolade celebrates five of the most influential cricketers from the preceding British summer of cricket. The ground-breaking selection of the women marks the first time in history that the award has been majority female.
Anya, who played alongside Nat in the Loughborough MCCU cricket team while they studied at the University, also received recognition of her contribution to the sport when awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours list.
Anya is also the first female in history to feature on Wisden Almanac’s front cover.
Congratulations to Anya and Nat on receiving this prestigious accolade.
