Alumnae given England Rugby call-ups
Two Loughborough alumnae are part of a seven-strong Loughborough Lightning contingent to be called up to the England Women’s Rugby Union training camp.
Lightning scrum-half and Captain Sarah Hunter, who is also the side’s player-coach, and prop Justine Lucas will link up with the squad later this week. The duo has over 130 England caps between them.
They are joined by Lightning teammates Jo Brown, Catherine O’Donnell, Katy Daly-Mclean, Charlotte Pearce and Carys Williams at the camp, hosted at Loughborough University.
The call-up comes ahead of the naming of the final squad for November’s Quilter Internationals on 18 October. The Red Roses will face USA, Canada and Ireland across November around the UK.
It was at Loughborough where Justine found her love for rugby, and was named the University’s Player of the Year in 2011. She graduated in 2011 with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Sports Science, whilst Sarah graduated in 2007 with a B.Sc. in Sports Science and Mathematics.
We wish Sarah, Justine and all Lightning representatives the best of luck at the camp.
