Alumnae all set for World Championships down under
Two Loughborough alumnae are on Australia’s Gold Coast as part of a 14-strong team of Loughborough triathletes at the ITU Triathlon World Championships.
Sophie Coldwell and Vicky Holland will race on Saturday afternoon, both flying the flag for the Loughborough Triathlon Performance Centre (LTPC). They are joined by fellow LTPC athlete Jodie Stimpson in the Senior Women’s category.
The ITU Triathlon Championships started on Wednesday and runs until Sunday, the Gold Coast meeting the last of the 2018 season. 5,000 athletes from 46 nations are competing at the event. Sophie and Vicky graduated in 2017 and 2008 respectively, both with a BSc in Human Biology.
Joining the pair are 11 current Loughborough University students and one student starting this year, who are competing across 10 different categories. In the U23 Women’s category, Sophie Alden and Olivia Mathais will race on Friday morning, followed by Barclay Izzard in the U23 Men’s category in the afternoon.
Saturday morning sees Iona Miller race in the Junior Women’s category, followed by James Chantler-Mayne and Matt Willis in the Men’s. As well as Sophie and Vicky’s race on Saturday afternoon, there are a host of Paratriathlete races. These races see Ryan Taylor (PTS3), George Peasgood (PTS5) and Dave Ellis (PTVI) compete in the men’s competition, andFran Brown (PTS2), Hannah Moore (PTS4) and Claire Cashmore (PTS5) compete in the women’s races.
