Alumna celebrates fifth anniversary of The Student Wordsmith
The online writing platform, The Student Wordsmith, founded by alumna Dr Sophie-Louise Hyde publishes the work of new and established writers.
Sophie joined Loughborough’s graduate commercialisation hub The Studio in 2012, and originally launched this platform as a way of sharing her own work but quickly realised its potential as a channel for fellow emerging writers.
The Student Wordsmith has gone from strength to strength and five years on, it now has hundreds of followers and loyal readers and has published eight books including You is for University, which features more than 50 pieces of work about the university experience.
The website has also received numerous accolades, one of which being the Loughborough Enterprise Award.
As the fifth anniversary approaches, Sophie explains:
“Reaching this momentous occasion is going to give me the opportunity to consider, in detail, what we’ve achieved and to measure the platform’s success so that I can continue to grow the platform further.”
For the first time, the Student Wordsmith will be running a Development Day on Sunday 22 April which focuses on a writer’s creative professional development. The course will be held in Martin Hall, Loughborough University, and will feature networking, workshops and unique peer-to-peer sessions.
Sophie graduated from Loughborough in 2012 with a BA degree in English, before returning to complete her Masters in Creative Writing, in 2013. Sophie then continued her English studies at the University and in 2017 was awarded a PhD. She now works at the University as a Student Recruitment Officer.
