Alumna captains England to successive victories
Loughborough Lightning captain and alumna Sarah Hunter played a vital role in the England Rugby Union side which made it three wins from three in the Quilter Internationals.
Sarah captained the side in the 27-19 victory over Canada and the 37-15 win over Ireland. She also featured and scored a try in a crushing 57-5 victory over the USA.
Four of Sarah’s Lightning teammates joined her in the squad, with Jo Brown, Katy Daly-Maclean, Catherine O’Donnell and Carys Williams all making appearances.
The match against the USA saw Katy join Sarah as one of just five players to reach 100 England caps for the women’s side, and Carys score on her debut.
The quintet formed five of a seven-strong Lightning contingent called up to the final training camp at Loughborough in October, which also included and alumna Justine Lucas and Lightning full-back Charlotte Pearce. The three victories mean the Red Roses will finish 2018 having won seven of their last eight games.
Congratulations to Sarah and all of the England team on their success.
