Alumna and patisserie shop owner triumphs on Brazilian Bake Off
Marta Oliveira Child, owner of Loughborough’s Bom Bom Patisserie, recently appeared on a TV series called Que Seja Doce, which is recognised as the Brazilian version of the Great British Bake Off.
Despite various other formatting differences, three teams of two must still bake to compete for the winning title and after each round, one team is eliminated. Marta sailed through the initial dessert test to secure her place in the final, where the brief was to produce a pudding using milk.
For this challenge, Marta presented a ‘vegan bomb’ which is a tried and tested recipe from her cafe. The ‘vegan bomb’ was placed in a hollow sphere shell that melted away with pouring salted caramel.
The dessert was well received with the judges and Marta’s team finished a close second place.
“I approached the experience simply as an opportunity to have fun and enjoy appearing on TV, which I hope came across during the show. It taught me something about organising my team under pressure and I found that my experience from the cafe had equipped me to do this well!”
But this was only the start for Marta who went on to compete in the Great British Bake Off: The Professionals, which airs Sunday 6 May 2018 on Channel 4.
Marta graduated from Loughborough University in 2012 with a degree in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. She now runs a popular bakery in Loughborough called Bom Bom Patisserie.
