A weekend of sport for alumni at Loughborough International Athletics 2018
Over 50 alumni and friends came to campus on 20 May 2018 for the 60th annual Loughborough International Athletics meet.
Guests were able to enjoy world-class athletics at the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Stadium on Sunday whilst reuniting with fellow alumni in the Pavilion. The guests enjoyed refreshments, lunch and afternoon tea during the day as part of the Loughborough Sporting Club VIP ticket, which was available to alumni and friends.
Spectators were treated to performances from athletes who have recently returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This included Loughborough based Mark Dry who won the Men’s Hammer and Loughborough student, Jess Judd, who took the title for the Women’s 3000m race.
In the afternoon, there was a special announcement for alumnus and staff member, George Gandy, who has devoted his career to athletics and has coached at Loughborough for nearly forty years. The crowd were delighted to recognise his achievements with this special mention ahead of his induction into the Loughborough Sport Hall of Fame later this year.
As part of the weekend, a group of alumni also attended a special Loughborough Sporting Club supper on the evening of 19 May, where they were able to talk all things sport and Loughborough ahead of the LIA events the following day.
We look forward to welcoming alumni to the LIA events again next year and to the Hall of Fame event on 9 November 2018.
