Alumnus to take to the skies as new recruit to the Red Arrows
Alumnus Jon Bond is joining the Red Arrows team for the 2018 season, marking the Royal Air Force’s 100th Anniversary year.
Flight Lieutenant Bond will fly as Red 2 in 2018 after completing seven months training and preparations for the RAF’s centenary year.
Throughout his winter training, Jon will fly three times a day, five days a week, whilst being filmed and scrutinised in detail.
His appointment to the RAF Aerobatic Team comes after having passed through an arduous selection process. In order to apply to join the Red Arrows, RAF pilots must have at least 1500 fast-jet flying hours, completed a frontline tour and be assessed as above average in their flying route.
Jon graduated from Loughborough with a degree in Air Transport Management in 2005 and a master’s degree in Transport Policy and Business Management in 2006.
During his time at Loughborough, Jon was part of the East Midlands Universities Air Squadron, where he completed Elementary Flying Training. He then joined the RAF after his graduation, and completed Initial Officer Training in 2007, gaining his wings the following year.
Jon joins fellow alumnus, Simon Taylor in the world famous display team.
We look forward to watching Jon and Simon take to the skies next year.
