Loughborough Alumnae receive recognition for their work in the rail industry
Women in Rail surveyed nationally within the sector to recognise women who work to positively influence others and are inspirational within rail. They received almost 200 profiles of women as part of the nomination process, which opened in February.
Loughborough University Sports Science alumna, Suzanne Patterson, has been working within the rail industry since 2008. Since graduating, Suzanne worked within the health and fitness sector and moved to work within rail eight years ago.
She is now the West Anglia HR Business Partner for London Overground Rail Operations Ltd (LOROL). Within her role, Suzanne has worked to develop a ‘Women in Leadership’ course. Women in Rail noted that; “Suzanne was chosen because of her clear dedication to empowering women in the rail industry.” She has worked closely within her company to develop this successful course which works to boost the ambitions and confidence of colleagues.
Maggie Simpson, Loughborough University Mathematics Engineering alumna, has also been recognised. Maggie is the Executive Director at Rail Freight Group, and has been recognised for her work and excellent reputation amongst peers. Women in Rail said that “she has fought to raise the profile of the Rail Freight sector within the media, the government and the wider rail industry. By bringing together suppliers and customers, she has renewed stakeholder support for this vital industry”. Her persistence in doing so has led to national recognition through ‘Women in Rail’.
It is excellent to see our alumnae excelling in the rail industry and being recognised for their contributions to the sector. Many congratulations to Maggie and Suzanne, and we wish them the best of luck for the future.
