Alumni Advisory Board President role description

Job Title:

President of the Loughborough University Alumni Association

Job Purpose:

To Chair the Alumni Advisory Board and represent with due care and diligence all Loughborough University graduates, retired staff and Honorary graduates of the University and the former Loughborough Colleges.

Duties & Responsibilities:

To work with the University’s Alumni and Supporter Engagement team to ensure:

  • Opportunities are created and maintained for all alumni to receive regular communications about the university’s activities, progress, and achievements - to ensure that alumni feel a lifelong affiliation with the University and are an informed body of advocates for the institution nationally and internationally.
  • Alumni have opportunities to engage in the life of the University by drawing on their wealth of experience, skills, and capability for the benefit of the academic schools, support services and all undergraduate and post graduate students.
  • Alumni understand how they can give back to the University by supporting it financially and in-kind through donations, leaving a legacy and peer-to-peer fundraising

To Chair and lead the Alumni Advisory Board:

  • To represent the alumni in dealings with the University and the Philanthropy and Supporter Engagement team
  • To ensure there is a balanced and fair representation of alumni on the Board.
  • To Chair and hold at least four meeting per year and hold further meetings as required. 
  • To call and chair a General Meeting of alumni at least once a year for the purpose of informing alumni of the affairs and activities of the Alumni Association and the University

Position requirements:

  • Office will be held for a term of three years from 1st September in the year of election in the first instance which can be renewed for one further term of up to three years.

Special conditions:

You may, at the sole discretion of the University, be appointed to the University Council, and other Committees as appropriate.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Shall be a former undergraduate or postgraduate of the university
  • Experience of chairing and managing meetings
  • Experience in a management role within a complex organisation
    • Experience in leading and managing a team/s
      • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills.
      • Excellent networks
      • Excellent interpersonal/diplomatic skills with the ability to develop strong relationships.
      • Maturity, presence, and personal authority.
      • A commitment to professionalism and excellence; drive, initiative, energy, and enthusiasm.
      • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative programs and solutions to problems
      • Ability to be able to dedicate sufficient time to the post, including spending time on campus in meetings and at events

Desirable criteria

  • Experience operating at Board level
