Curriculum Sub-Committee

Subject:    Proposals for New Programmes

Origin:      Mary Morley, University Librarian

I note that the 'proposal for a new programme' form now includes "PLEASE
allow the above Departments and Support Services at least 10 days to read
your proposal and complete this form".  I am pleased to see this, and should
be even more pleased if proposers did allow ten days.  As I am sure you
realise, while there are honourable exceptions it is far more common for
proposers to ask for consultation forms to be signed immediately, usually
with no prior notification of the proposal, let alone consultation over its
resource implications.  Sometimes no completed proposal form is supplied,
leaving one unaware of expected student numbers and the Department's own
opinion of resource implications.

Any influence Curriculum Sub-Committee can exert on those proposing new
programmes to ensure that they allow sufficient time for this process, and
that they consult properly, would be appreciated.
