Business with an International Foundation Year

Business with an International Foundation Year is a one-year course designed for high-calibre international students who have successfully completed 12 years of school education, and therefore need an extra year of study for UK undergraduate study.

Special emphasis is placed on subject-specific tuition to prepare students for their chosen degree course, as well as developing the study skills needed for success in an independent learning environment.
Business with an International Foundation Year is a one year programme which will enable you to progress onto the first year of your chosen degree course, provided the relevant progression criteria are met.
The course allows you to progress on to any of the following business courses:

During the year you will undertake core modules in English, Business,a Mathematics module, and choose options from Economics and Sport Science.

As a student on the International Foundation Programme you will receive high quality teaching from renowned Loughborough University academics, and be supported throughout your studies by an academic tutor.

Language modules will build your confidence with the English language.

In addition, you will benefit from our University Library, IT services, Mathematics Learning Support Centre and wide range of health and welfare services, including tailored support for international students.

  • Business
  • English Language

Plus an option from:

  • Statistical Mathematics
  • Applicable Mathematics

An option from:

  • Sport Science
  • Economics

Please note: Students who have already met the University department’s required level of English with a local qualification (such as WAEC) may be exempt from taking English Language modules as part of the foundation year, pending confirmation from their department. They would instead choose from a list of other available academic modules.

Modules are assessed by a combination of written exams and / or coursework assignments. Some modules are continually assessed throughout the year.

Typical coursework assignments include: laboratory reports, essays, poster presentations, assessed tutorials, workshops, peer review (review fellow students’ performance) and dissertations.

It is expected that for every hour you are in a structured class, you should spend two hours of your own time researching, writing up, learning work or doing set questions etc.

The information above reflects the currently intended course structure and module details. Updates may be made on an annual basis and revised details will be published through Programme Specifications ahead of each academic year. Please see Terms and Conditions of Study for more information
