What do you enjoy about your course?
I enjoy the teaching and coaching element to my course the most. I am aspiring to become a PE teacher and I feel that this module gives me the opportunity to develop my confidence, knowledge and skill level in a variety of different sports. It is extremely helpful in assisting me with creating lesson plans for my coaching sessions and work experience that I’m currently taking part in at a secondary school. It also gives me an insight into the challenges that teachers and coaches face which may sometimes be overlooked. I also really enjoy my psychology based modules; the lecturers are very passionate about their subject.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
The teaching quality of both my lectures and labs is outstanding! All of the lecturers are very knowledgeable and despite there being a large number of students on my course they always offer a huge amount of support with regards to coursework or any general queries about the exam or module.
Have you had any support from the University?
My lecturers and personal tutor are only an email away if I have any problems, and the coach and volunteer academy have helped to push me in the right direction with regards to gaining relevant experience in teaching/coaching.
What are some of the different things you can do on your course?
You have access to sports massage courses and personal training courses and you are given the opportunity to use the physiology labs/equipment, as well as a variety of the sporting facilities such as HiPAC. These are only a few of things you get to experience, there are many more and there is something exciting for everyone to take part in.
Have you done any relevant work experience?
I currently have a placement in a secondary school in Nottinghamshire on my day off which allows me to further develop my confidence in teaching and develop a wide range of lesson plans to use.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I would like to train to become a Physical Education teacher. Within my degree, I have had the opportunity to study teaching and coaching, and Sport Pedagogy as modules which have widened my knowledge into the theories behind teaching and given me the opportunity to improve my leadership skills and confidence.
