Why did you choose Loughborough University?
Loughborough offered a unique social perspective on the traditional Psychology degree that appealed to me more than the more scientific alternatives. The whole atmosphere of the University is friendly and welcoming, and I could really see myself living there.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I find it really exciting that you get to conduct your own experiments in real life settings; it really helps to apply what you have learnt.
As well, I find Biological Psychology really interesting as it delves into mental disabilities and the social stigma around them. It is also really interesting to learn about the history of Psychology, and how it came to be the subject it is today.
What do you think of the teaching quality and support?
All of the lecturers are very knowledgeable in their subject areas. My tutor has been great, giving help whenever I have asked for it and also providing support whilst settling into university life. Becoming a student rep has also given me an insight into how the Social Sciences are continuously addressing concerns raised by students and lecturers and improving each of the degrees.
Have you done a work experience relevant to your course?
I took a gap year in which I worked with Special Needs in Nadi, Fiji. This gave me a huge appreciation of how different cultures deal with special needs. It was very rewarding to be able to input my own knowledge into the school by taking lessons and aiding the teachers.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I hope to go into the Retail and Marketing sector. As my degree studies the human mind and other social interactions I believe it will be very beneficial for when I go into the Marketing sector.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
It’s a fascinating insight into the subject of Psychology at one of the best Universities in England!
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
The student lifestyle in Loughborough is fantastic; wherever you live you will be near friends so there is always something to do and someone to see!
