Why did you choose Loughborough University?
I applied for five different degrees at five different universities. When I visited Loughborough I really liked the environment and it felt right for me. I have always known about Loughborough’s Engineering reputation and the School is a very good department within the University. As I took Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Product Design at A Level this degree suited all my interests and skills.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I really enjoy the mix between lectures, labs and group work, with each module having a different focus. There are many interesting and different modules on my degree, including those that involve links with industrial companies. My favourite modules are the Product Design and Computer Aided Design modules.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
The quality of the teaching is excellent and lecturers are always happy to discuss problems or give additional details for further learning outside of lectures.
Have you had any support from the University?
There are many services both within the School and the University to help students with all different types of issues, including note takers for dyslexic students and student services to offer both legal advice and support.
Have you done a professional placement?
I have completed a 15 month placement at Jaguar Land Rover. This has helped me to apply what I have learnt at University in an industrial environment and to return to University with a better understanding of the industry. I would highly recommend completing a placement.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I have been offered a graduate role with my placement company for when I graduate and my degree from Loughborough has helped me to achieve this role.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
It’s a great varied degree, which is highly looked upon out in industry.
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
There is always something going on that you can get involved in, be it sports, societies or work related groups. I have been part of the Loughborough student equestrian club during my time at Loughborough and have thoroughly enjoyed my time within the club. Being able to be involved in so many different things along with my studies has helped to make my CV look more attractive to prospective employers.
Has Loughborough inspired you?
Loughborough University and my degree in particular have helped inspire me to work within the automotive industry once I graduate. The University has allowed and encouraged me to do the best I can.
