Year of Study

BSc (Hons)

Why did you choose Loughborough University?

My course offers a lot of choice in modules studied, you can tailor the degree to what you are interested in! I knew I wanted to do business, and was interested in consultancy – Retailing, Marketing & Management provided opportunities to explore this further.

The “Loughborough Bubble” means you get an unparalleled community feel. There’s so much going on, and it’s so easy to get involved. The Business School also has strong industry links, with the placement year being a prime opportunity to get real experience of the career you want to pursue.

What do you enjoy about your course?

The variety. You get to look at so many different areas of business, from Marketing to Information Management – it builds a wide range of experiences. For me, my favourite module has to be Organisational Behaviour. It’s really interesting to look at how people work, and why they work that way.

What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?

The rooms are fit for purpose and spacious. The lecturers engage with you on a personal level as well as academic; they genuinely care and want you to succeed.

Have you had any support from the University?

My personal tutor has been awesome. I’ve been given lots of time, advice and additional projects to get involved with, which was fundamental to obtaining the placement year I wanted as an Accenture Analyst.

What are some of the different things you like about your course?

There’s a real life element. In second year I undertook a consultancy based coursework, looking at the operations of a leading high street retailer, before recommending improvements and presenting them back to their area managers. That was pretty cool!

Have you done a professional placement?

Next year, I will be working as an Accenture Analyst – I can’t wait to start. I’ll be working in client teams, working on real problems and even as an analyst, get the opportunity to drive home my recommendations to make a positive change.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I want to be a management consultant. When I graduate from Loughborough, I will have had a year’s experience in that industry and boosted by my involvement in a number of Loughborough’s societies such as Enactus and Nightline. I will come out a more rounded and employable graduate, powered by my time at Loughborough.

What would you say to someone considering your course?

Quite simply, do it, and don’t look back. It’s crazy how far you can come in four years at Loughborough, and I’ve never once thought I should have done something different.

What do you enjoy about being a student here?

The community feel. You get to know everyone really quickly, it makes you feel at home, so much so that you almost don’t want the holidays to come! You’ll soon get used to the “Loughborough Bubble”. You will recognise people around campus quickly, and can participate in so many societies, from Enactus where I spent my first year, to playing Quidditch.

Of course, if you have an interest in sport, we’re quite good at that. The facilities are awesome, and everyone can use them, whether you’re in the AU teams or just want to go and play tennis for an hour.

Has Loughborough inspired you?

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to participate in helping out with the set-up of our new Loughborough University in London (LUiL) postgraduate campus. Here, I was part of the module testing, where I got to solve a problem for a real client as part of a team from various degrees. After this, I knew I wanted to be a consultant, and I was able to visit our awesome new campus, right next to the Olympic Park – it’s pretty cool!
