Why did you choose Loughborough University?

I chose my degree at Loughborough University as the Computer Science Department has a good reputation and offered the course that I wanted to do. I was also attracted to the University as I liked the campus and also the facilities that Loughborough has. I was really impressed with the facilities that the University have to offer, i.e. the sporting facilities and also labs.

I was also aware that the social side of the University was very good as I have a friend who went to the University. The Students’ Union is very good and when I came on an open day they explained about halls, IMS, Action and the different things you can get involved with at the University.

What do you enjoy about your course?

I enjoy the balance between the IT and Business side of the course. I learnt about designing websites but also get to do HR, accounting and management modules which will help when I graduate and get a job.

My favourite module has been Advanced Web Design. This has taught me lots of skills about designing effective websites. I like the mixture of the practical side of the coursework (building a website using HTML5) and writing reports.

What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?

The teaching quality of Loughborough is very high and you have specialists in their field of study. The lectures are interesting and also varied. In my degree I have lectures ranging from accountancy to web design.

Have you had any support from the University?

The University have been good at letting me know about placement opportunities. Also when you get into your final year and writing your dissertation, you will be assigned a tutor who will help you while you do your dissertation.

What are some of the exciting things you can do on your course?

On my course, there are lots of opportunities such as going on a placement year and also Erasmus for a term. Also as part of ITMB, we go on a yearly conference which is a chance to network with employees and also meet other people doing the ITMB degree.

Have you done a professional placement?

I was on a placement year in my third year. It was a really good chance to see what it is like working for a business and seeing what it is like in an office environment. It taught me skills such as problem solving skills, communication and be able to deal with customer complaints.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I am looking to join IT graduate schemes. My Loughborough degree will support this, as my degree is sponsored by lots of large multinational companies. They have a say on what skills they are looking for and the course is adapted to ensure that we are learning relevant and up-to-date content.

What would you say to someone considering your course?

I would say that the course is challenging but it also interesting and allows you to learn about lots of different areas of both business and IT.

How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?

The social atmosphere at Loughborough is really good. Fresher’s week was quality and there are lots of societies and sports clubs that you can be part of. I was a media Rep for Rutherford hall. I also played Handball and was a DJ on LCR which is Loughborough Students’ Union’s own radio station.

What do you enjoy most about being a student here?
