Why did you choose Loughborough University?
My decision was between Loughborough and a London University; when I came to Loughborough for my interview the atmosphere was much more exciting and there was a more impressive focus on the tutor-student relationship.
What attracted you to the University in the first place?
Loughborough has a great balance in terms of work ethic and student experience, which is the main reason I chose to study here. The course seemed like the best option for me as it offered diversity and a variety of options for specialism as a designer.
What do you enjoy about your course?
The best thing about my course is that it is relevant to everyday life. Communication is the main focus of my degree and this allows each of us, as designers, to communicate our own ideas professionally.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
The tutoring for our course is excellent, offering consistent guidance and timely encouragement. Tutors really push us to our highest potentials and want the best for us.
Do you have a particularly favourite project/module on your course? Why did you enjoy it?
My favourite project is one that I am currently working on, which is aimed at dementia sufferers and involves creating an interactive daily journal that links music with memory. My aim is to help those with dementia to better manage their lives and hopefully evoke certain emotions. As a final year student you are allowed to manage your own projects and briefs: this has been hugely beneficial as it has enabled me to study and create something very close to my heart.
What kind of support have you had in the department and from the University?
The support from our department is brilliant – I have frequently contacted tutors about issues both personally and professionally. Feedback and help are provided without hesitation.
Have you completed a placement whilst at University?
After I graduate I wish to progress into either a professional graduate placement or work as a designer in industry. I haven’t completed a placement but in March 2015 I was shortlisted into the final three candidates for a Warner Bros creative internship.
What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your Loughborough degree support this?
I hope to work as a graphic designer in London, which is a huge place full of opportunities to be recognised. My Loughborough degree will give me confidence when applying for jobs and roles in the design industry.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
100% do it. It is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life so far – everything about the course has pushed me to succeed as a designer.
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
As a University that is top for student satisfaction, the social atmosphere around the campus is something I’m proud to be a part of. I am involved in a halls’ netball club which has enabled me to meet a lot more people and to develop my leadership skills.
What do you enjoy the most about being a Loughborough University student?
Being part of Loughborough University is something I am so proud of. It has such a great sense of unity and has fulfilled all of my expectations.
Has Loughborough inspired you?
Over the past two years I have established myself as a skilled individual, both technically and personally. Loughborough respects students for who they are and what they want to achieve.
