Study areas

Drama

The Drama courses at Loughborough University are characterised by their combination of theory and practice, bringing acting, playwriting, dramaturgy and alternative performance methodologies together with theories of theatre and gender, philosophy and politics. Technically, our Drama courses engage the relationships between applied, ‘real life’ and traditional techniques and the expanding arena of digital practice.

English

The English courses at Loughborough University explore culture and communication in context, developing in our students a critical approach to both literary histories and contemporary literatures and theories. The course is designed to have a strong central focus on English literatures and language, yet enables a student to explore more interdisciplinary, comparative aspects of the field, such as American literary and visual cultures, creative writing and film.

Fine Art

The Fine Art course at Loughborough University emphasizes the relationship between theory and practice, or thinking through making, bringing together exceptional facilities and expertise to support practices ranging from drawing, printmaking and ceramics, to temporal performance, moving image and photography. With a particular focus on the connections between art, culture and politics, in relation to the public sphere, sustainability, environmental aesthetics and identity in a global world, a degree in Fine Art provides students with a wide array of transferable skills and employment opportunities.

Graphic Communication and Illustration

The Graphic Communication & Illustration course at Loughborough University emphasizes understanding the communication value, the contexts and the applications of the image. Our approach combines technical and semantic explorations of visual communication (with an emphasis on drawing) with hands-on experience of business-facing, applied communication design.
