Professional placement (sandwich) year

placements can be an invaluable opportunity to advance your skills and apply your knowledge to a working environment.
Our students have full access to our state-of-the-art facilities, which offer a number of creative opportunities. They provide industry-standard production possibilities and you will receive an unparalleled level of professional training in using them.
Our facilities include six superior creative art and design hubs, a 300-seat proscenium arch theatre, and a variety of other performance rehearsal and study spaces.
For students on our English programmes, the School offers great teaching spaces, venues for visiting lectures as well as readings and workshops by creative writers and excellent audio-visual resources for film screenings.
Whatever your choice of degree, you will also enjoy use of the recently refurbished University Library, with its comfortable study spaces and comprehensive holdings of printed and electronic resources.

The Drama courses at Loughborough University are characterised by their combination of theory and practice, bringing acting, playwriting, dramaturgy and alternative performance methodologies together with theories of theatre and gender, philosophy and politics. Technically, our Drama courses engage the relationships between applied, ‘real life’ and traditional techniques and the expanding arena of digital practice.
The English courses at Loughborough University explore culture and communication in context, developing in our students a critical approach to both literary histories and contemporary literatures and theories. The course is designed to have a strong central focus on English literatures and language, yet enables a student to explore more interdisciplinary, comparative aspects of the field, such as American literary and visual cultures, creative writing and film.
The Fine Art course at Loughborough University emphasizes the relationship between theory and practice, or thinking through making, bringing together exceptional facilities and expertise to support practices ranging from drawing, printmaking and ceramics, to temporal performance, moving image and photography. With a particular focus on the connections between art, culture and politics, in relation to the public sphere, sustainability, environmental aesthetics and identity in a global world, a degree in Fine Art provides students with a wide array of transferable skills and employment opportunities.
Graphic Communication and Illustration
The Graphic Communication & Illustration course at Loughborough University emphasizes understanding the communication value, the contexts and the applications of the image. Our approach combines technical and semantic explorations of visual communication (with an emphasis on drawing) with hands-on experience of business-facing, applied communication design.
The Publishing courses at Loughborough University are fully integrated with English and the Arts, enabling students to combine history, theory and practice in their degree. In addition, Publishing works closely with the Lamplight Press and with industry and the community to develop students’ employability after University.
The Textiles course at Loughborough University enables students to gain high level practical skills in drawing, design and making, through specialist pathways in printed, woven and multi-media textiles. The course combines traditional and hand processes with cutting-edge digital technologies, and has extensive links with industry.
