Why did you choose Loughborough University?
I wanted a degree in Civil Engineering and after taking a look at the modules covered in this course at Loughborough University, I found it suitable for me. I was also attracted by the high ranking status of the University in the field of Civil Engineering and as a University as a whole. The University also boasted best student experience in the lead up to me applying and appealed to me because of its sporting reputation.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I like the broad nature of the course. It encompasses a wide range of subjects, which keeps it interesting. There is also a fair amount of practical work to complement the theory delivered in lectures which makes learning certain subjects more enjoyable. My favourite module was Structural Analysis and Mechanics, simply because I like the numerical nature of the subject.
There is also a component of outdoor field work incorporated within the course, which I found particularly enjoyable. It is nice to have a mix between being in lectures and also doing practical work. There is plenty of that in the course.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
I think the resources that are available to students at Loughborough are brilliant. I was impressed with how easily accessible notes and information about lectures where through the University’s online system. I also think the library and computer areas available are of very high standards.
Have you had any support from the University?
Whenever I have had difficulties with particular modules, lecturers have always been ready to help.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I hope to pursue a career in the construction industry and work my way to becoming a professional civil engineer.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
Civil Engineering can be a challenging degree but the department here at Loughborough provides excellent resources to help you through the course whenever you will need it. Studying this degree here has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done.
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
It is very easy to socialise with people here and the student life at Loughborough is amazing. What I enjoy the most is that there is such a large range of activities and clubs that you can be a part of if you wanted to get involved, you don’t just have to focus on your studies.
Has Loughborough inspired you?
I have acquired a fair amount of skills studying civil engineering here at Loughborough. One particular skill that I have developed further is working in teams through various projects over the course of the degree and through a team building field course that I underwent as part of my degree.
