Why did you choose Loughborough University?

I chose to study my degree at Loughborough because of the high standards of teaching and links with industry. Overall, Loughborough provided a better learning opportunity than any other university I looked at.

I was particularly attracted to Loughborough University’s Computer Science Department because of the high student satisfaction rate that it had gained. As well as this, the facilities available to students in the department are very well equipped and there are a lot of study spaces available to students.

What do you enjoy about your course?

I enjoy that I get a mix of both practical work in the programming and computing modules and more essay based writing and evaluation in the business management modules. In some modules, my course presents the opportunity to put yourself in a real life corporate situation to get the feel of what it would be like to interact with clients within a business.

My favourite project so far is in the Team Projects module in second year. This is due to the fact that within the specification we are given the freedom to be creative with the website that we produce and be able to bring in work from other modules and knowledge we have built up so far in our degree.

What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?

The teaching quality in the lectures and labs is very high, and lectures endeavour to present every new topic in an interesting and engaging way.

Have you had any support from the University?

I have had support from lecturers and academic staff in the department at times when I have been struggling with work. They are very friendly and always willing to help.

Have you done a professional placement?

I plan to do a placement next year before returning to Loughborough for my final year. I hope to be able to apply the skills I have learnt to a practical situation and real life business context.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

When I graduate I hope to be in a job role which supports my interests in both technology and business. I hope that by taking a placement year it will direct me further towards my chosen career path.

What would you say to someone considering your course?

Do it! Choosing to study at Loughborough has been the best decision I have ever made.

How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?

The social atmosphere on campus is amazing. The halls spirit means that you feel at home straight away and there are so many different societies to join; there will always be something for everyone.

My favourite part of being a student at Loughborough University is that there are so many people with vastly different interests. This has meant that I have made friends from a wide variety of different backgrounds and locations around the world!

Has Loughborough inspired you?

Through volunteering for Action I have been inspired to help other people in any way possible through giving up my free time to dedicate to them.
